Quick update!

And in a blink of an eye, the year is almost coming to an end.

What a year it's been! From our small but fun Orientation, to one of the hottest activities in JB - Battle of the Bands, to our warmly received Singing Competition and Art Competition, and finally our last activity, our 9th Birthday Party.

Overall, I think everyone who attended the event would surely agree that it was well worth the experience. Hope to see the same faces, and more new ones, at our 10th Birthday Party next year, where we'll celebrate one decade of Music Club!

Update!

Hey readers,

Time really flies huh. In a blink of an eye we have reached August and approaching the end of the year, but that doesn't mean anything for Music Club SSI because we're always, always on the move towards better things. To infinity, and beyond!

From Battle of the Bands till now, we didn't just bask in success and take a break - instead we used it to push ourselves further and have since held another activity:

Singing Competition

Date: 24th July and 31st July 2010

For the first round on 24th July we could see that there was a warm response from students, with 8 contestants/groups participating. The finals were held on the 31st, with 4 finalists fighting with their voices to be crowned winners of this competition. The finalists were: Suhada, Aryanna Yuzni, Farhan, and a group consisting of Kuan Hong Yap, Long Li Jia and Ng Jia Yi. After much deliberation by our line of judges which consisted of Cikgu Razi, Puan Chong, , Vice President of SSI MC Chow Shu Ling, and Creative Director of SSI MC Chan Eak-Kuan, the winners were announced:


Champion             : Suhada
1st Runner-Up(s) : Kuan Hong Yap, Long Li Jia, Ng Jia Yi
2nd Runner-Up    : Farhan

So on behalf of SSI MC, I'd like to give my warmest congratulations to the winners and deepest gratitude to all participants, students, and teachers who supported this activity! Hope to see you all again next year!

Students wow the crowd at Battle of the Bands

JOHOR BARU: Five-man rock band One Chapter topped 12 other bands to emerge champion of Battle of the Bands competition.

The band, which walked away with a trophy and RM300 in the event organised by SMK Sultan Ismail (SSI) Music Club, where they performed cover-versions of ‘Plug in baby’ (originally by Muse) and ‘Revolusi’ (originally by Bunkface).


Frontman Amirul Asyraf Abd Aziz, 17, said that it was the first time One Chapter had competed in a battle of the bands showcase.

“To win a competition the first time competing is unbelievable. We are completely speechless and thrilled,” he said, adding that the band would take part in more competitions and work on more original songs in future.

The best: Five-man rock band One Chapter clinched the first place in the Battle of the Bands

A crowd favourite, One Chapter also won the ‘best band support award’ thanks to their bevy of cheering, banner-waving fans.

Another instant sensation at the battle of the bands was 11-year-old Rainnie Ong, a female drummer from a band called Music Soul.

“I feel lucky to have had the chance to perform for a crowd considering I have only played the drums for six months. I think I did alright,” said the shy girl from SJCK Pei Hwa.

Undoubtz, the winner of the best original song, were overjoyed when they won the award for their original song titled ‘Blue Sky’.

The third place winning band Cyber5’s Nur Sabrina Azman, 17, said that her band had done their best during their performance of Lady Gaga’s hit ‘Bad Romance’.

“We are a young band, only two-months-old, and this is our first competition together,” said the bubbly lead singer, adding that her brother and bandmate Azizurrahman Adli, 16, was her greatest source of support.

SSI Music club teacher-adviser Chong Lee Cheng, 52, said that this was the third time the Battle of the Bands was being held and it took about six months to organise.

“I am very proud of my students for the hard work they put in and the excellent results they achieved,” she said.

SSI senior assistant in charge of co-curricular affairs Rosli Bahrom, 54, said through the focus on the arts, the school hoped to produce students who were accomplished in not only academics but also co-curricular activities.

Competition judge and RTM Johor Baru combo drummer Hairul Hafizi Hasnan, said that most of the bands did well but they could get better with more practice.

“It’s a great idea to have this type of competition for students to express their creativity and talent,” he said.

The audience were also entertained by performances from dance team the Dancologists, Star Singing Competition finalist Sarah Wong, 15-year-old beatbox sensation Jacky Tan and rock band Black Lace during the competition.

Update, and news about SSI Singing Competition

Hey everyone!

Chloe here again. Just a quick update today. Battle of the Bands 2010 went smoothly on 10th June 2010, and on behalf of SSI Music Club I would like to give my endless thanks to the bands, the sponsors, supporters, the audience, the committee members and everyone who helped make this event a success.

Here are the results:

Champion: One Chapter
1st Runner Up: Remedy for the Cured
2nd Runner Up: Cyber Five
Best Fan Support: One Chapter 
Best Original Song: Undoubtz

SSI Singing Competition

Date: 31st July 2010

Venue: Dewan Sultan Ismail (Dewan Tertutup)

This competition is open to ALL SSI students, individually or in groups consisting of not more than 3 members. The entrance fee is RM3 per individual/contesting group.

So to all SSI students, come and sing your heart out, and show your talent to the rest of the school!

There has been a change of DATE. Due to some scheduling difficulties, the event is now set for 10th JUNE 2010 (Thursday). Please take note and help spread the word to those who are interested in the event.

Battle of the Bands 2010 RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rules and Regulations


*Please read the instructions below to qualify for the requirements of the competition.


Ø Ticket Fee : RM8 (audience / supporters)

Ø Number of contestants per team : min 2 pax, max 8 pax.

Ø Age range : 22 years old and below (students only)

Ø Duration of performance : 3 -10 minutes

Ø Song’s Ferules : NO SEXUAL REFERENCES + RELIGIOUS ISSUES + REFERENCES TO TERRORISM + SENSITIVE ISSUES.
Non-English songs are not allowed. HOWEVER, remixes containing different languages are allowed, on the condition that the remix is 60% English. 

Ø NO VIOLENCE, NO DRUGS and NO ALCOHOL.

Ø English will be the main language used during the event.

Ø Action will be taken on disciplinary offences.

Ø Decision of the panel is FINAL!

Ø The organiser will not bear responsibility for any accidents or mishaps which befall on any contestant.

Ø Deadline : 30 May 2010

Ø Contestants are encouraged to bring their supporters. 15% of the overall marks will be based on the supporters.

Battle of the Bands 2010

Hello everyone. I know, 2nd post of the day already, but that just shows how fast SSI Music Club is going! We're really picking up speed and heading towards better things, so here's another juicy update for everyone.

Every year, SSI Music Club holds a big event so that everyone, not just from our own school, but from all around can come and enjoy, and witness how SSI Music Club continues every year to be a pioneer for greater and better things. This year we're bringing back BATTLE OF THE BANDS - which, as it's name suggests, is a competition for young bands from everywhere and anywhere, regardless of race, gender and religion.

T-shirt Design Contest

Hey everyone! Hope all our readers are well, here's an exciting update for your reading pleasure:

We'll be holding a T-Shirt Design Contest, open to all members of Music Club! It's a simple and rewarding contest. Design a shirt, any style you want, any colour you like. The only condition is it MUST have the following details: our Music Club Logo (can be seen in our header - the treble-clef shaped thing), and our five mottos: Creative, Initiative, Innovative, Motivation, Revolution. The rest is up to you.

What's so rewarding, one might ask. Well, ALL participants will have added koko marks, while the WINNER will get even higher added koko marks and the new t-shirt with his/her design on it for free

Those interested can get more information or hand in their designs to Chan Eak Kuan, 4 Bistari . Deadline is April 30th 2010 (Friday). So hurry up and get to work - give us a new look and be rewarded!

Updates

How time flies. Already we're 2 months into 2010, and SSI Music Club is going strong and about to get even stronger! Already we have had our Orientation, which was well-attended and successful. Also, Choir Practices have been held regularly, with the addition of several new voices. Here are a few updates that might be of interest to readers and followers.

Our next activity is our annual Trip, which will be held sometime during the March holidays. Details:

PLEASE try your best.

We are going to hold the orientation by this freiday. I hope that everyone can do your best in this activity since this is the 1st activity of music club. Im counting on all of you. We should success together. Besides, we need to win the champion in choir competition, so, aall choir members please look forward on it. Nothing is impossible. Even convent is joining too. We can only show our potential to school by winning the champion. Please take it serious. Otherwise we will be very tough in getting permission from school in the future.

strings on wooden necks


hi,this is your creative director of music club here.
There have been requests from alot of members and non-members (lets call them students of SSI) who are really interested in guitar playing.
As the only guy in MC who plays the guitar, there have been request made personally to me to give guitar lessons to the interested ones.
So what do everyone think about this suggestion? Feedbacks are needed to make this plan work out.
Give comments,guys.We need support.
If it works out, everyone can stop having fantasies about being a rock star,and be a real,professional guitarist,
